Student Life

Supported by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, the Chester County Academic Competition gives students from twenty-four different high schools in Chester County the opportunity to compete against each other in a "college-bowl" format. Students answer challenging questions in a variety of categories, from contemporary events and popular culture, to fine arts, science, math, and history. Our Academic Competition team attends four yearly matches in the fall and winter and we hold weekly practices during high school lunch periods. Students who are interested in joining may join at the beginning of the school year, or in the spring.

Where there's a need, there's a Leo.

As the youngest members of Lions Clubs International, Leos embody the best qualities of the Lions Clubs organization. They are devoted young people who realize the power of action. Together, Leos and Lions form a powerful partnership—one of mutual respect, where Lions learn from the innovative insights of Leos, and where Leos gain access to the proven strategies of those who’ve successfully served the world for decades.

The Leo club motto is:

Leadership - Leos develop skills as organizers, time managers, and motivators of their peers.
Experience - Leos learn the importance of cooperation through community service.
Opportunity - Membership provides young people with a chance to excel, to develop positive character traits, and to receive recognition for their contributions to the community.

Community service is the cornerstone of the program. Students work with Lion's Club and staff advisors to plan and execute a number of service related programs and projects at AGCS and the surrounding community. Many Leo Club members at AGCS exceed 100 hours of community service per year.

The AGCS Leo Club is open to all students in High School.  The club is a partnership between AGCS High School and the local Lion's Club chapter.

Our student DECA Leadership Team is taking AGCS DECA to the next level! In 2024 we had 20 students qualify for States and an impressive 4 advanced to the International competition in Anaheim, CA.

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 with the idea that the main goal of high schools was “to make to the greatest contribution to the American ideal of democracy.” Once established, the National Honor Society aimed to encourage scholarship and service, promote worthy leadership, and aid in the character development of high school charter members. To learn more, please download the NHS Information and Requirements document. 

The Avon Grove Charter School Chapter inducts new members in the fall of each school year. Students who have completed ninth grade with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply. Letters of Invitation for Application to the NHS are sent home at the end of school year and the NHS application is to be submitted in late August. To apply to the NHS for the upcoming school year, please complete the NHS Application. These applications are reviewed by the Faculty Council with regard to the student’s demonstration of all four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

AGCS NHS sponsors a variety of events and fundraisers, including: Project C.U.R.E., NHS Induction Ceremony, campus ambassadors, campus and park cleanups, and the NHS Blood Drive.

Tri-M Music Honor Society, formerly known as Modern Music Masters, is a high school music honor society that is a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements and to provide leadership and service opportunities to young musicians. There are approximately 6200 participating chapters in several countries.

To be eligible for membership, a student must maintain a B average in their music classes, a B average in all of their academic courses, be enrolled in a music course at their school, and fill out an application and essay to be considered for membership.

Since 2015, AGCS has proudly housed Chapter 7108 of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. These students have made Coffee Houses a regular and popular event at the school, taken over the Christmahanukwanzaa Holiday Event, renovated the Outdoor Classroom, sell Valentine's Day Music Grams, and last year started a Name That Tune Trivia Night, Drive-in Movie Night, Broadway Showcase Gala, and Twisted Broadway.

If you meet the academic requirements AND are a member of any of Mr. June’s classes or plan to participate in the Spring Musical, you are eligible for membership! This year’s executive board and membership are planning to continue many of these great activities and much more!!

2024-2025 Officers

The high school yearbook staff is tasked with the production and sale of the high school yearbook each year. They come up with the theme, design motif, and color palette, and determine the organization of the book, as well as what specific content is to be included. The staff works together closely to photograph the events of the year, interview students and staff, and design a visually appealing book that reflects the year of a high school charter student. They learn new software along with contemporary design trends and professional practices in publication. Students also assist in promoting and selling the yearbook through social media, posters, announcements, sales tables, etc.

The yearbook is a unique collaboration between class and club members. Two lunch meetings and an after-school meeting per week allow our groups to meet and coordinate event coverage and design tasks, while the class meets daily.

Returning yearbook staffers also have the opportunity to participate in the annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association fall conference in New York City. The overnight trip allows some of the most active yearbook members the chance to learn about design and writing for publication from some of the top industry professionals.

AGCS High School Student Council serves as the governing body for AGCS's high school and creates and executes major high school related social events, community service projects and school pride traditions. The main goal of HS Student Council is to promote an inclusive and positive school culture that pushes for students to be engaged academically, socially, and personally in their school community. HS Student Council focuses on hearing the needs and wants of the student body and focuses on improving school events year to year to build AGCS school spirit.

HS Student Council holds tons of fun events for grades 9-12 throughout the year. Some of the annual favorites are:
