PSAT & NMSQT Information
Students who plan to take the test will receive a complete sample test for practice along with the answer key and scoring instructions. When scores are reported in December (pending the turn around time for CollegeBoard), each student will receive a report of Student Answers including the correct answers as well as the answers that the student gave. To allow students to refer to the original questions, AGCS will return test booklets with scores.
The PSAT/NMSQT is cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It is administered annually to more than one million students and measures verbal and mathematical abilities that are important in college work.
The PSAT gives students the opportunity to find out what the College Board’s Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is like, and helps them in planning for college or other post-secondary aspirations. Students will be allowed to use a calculator for a portion of the math section of the exam. Students who choose to participate in the CollegeBoard Student Search Service have an opportunity to hear from colleges that they might not otherwise learn about. The PSAT/NMSQT is also the qualifying test for JUNIOR students who wish to participate in the nationwide scholarships competitions administered by National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
AGCS is covering the cost and administering the test to ALL AGCS Sophomores and Juniors. Since the test is only being offered this year during a school day, please be aware that your student will be missing a large portion of his or her academic day and will need to check in with all teachers to make them aware and collect any work that will be missed prior to the day of testing.
If you do not wish your student to take the PSAT, please download the PSAT-NMSQT Opt Out Form, complete it, and return to Ms. Basilio. Opt out forms are due by October 4, 2023. If we do not get a form back opting your student out, they will take the PSAT.
If you have any questions, please email Ms. Alaxson at malaxson@agcharter.org.
