Community Service
Community Service Requirements
One of Avon Grove Charter School's core values is that of promoting service. We are committed to the concept that service extends beyond our school walls and that makes a positive impact on the surrounding communities. As a Charter School that attracts students from across multiple districts in Chester County, AGCS students have the opportunity to serve multiple communities, organizations, and people within the surrounding area.
Community Service Requirements
- Students in the class of 2024 and beyond must complete a comprehensive College and Career Readiness Portfolio in lieu of the previous Community Service Hours requirement.
- Middle School Students (Grades 7-8) are required to complete five (5) documented hours of community service per year
- Sixth Grade Students are required to complete five (5) documented hours of community service per year
We define Community Service as any service activity that contributes to the well-being of the community and/or school for which there is no compensation for the individual.
This is a promotion requirement; failure to complete the required community service hours, whether school or community based, can result in the school withholding a student's report card, ineligibility to participate in end-of-year field trips or activities, and delay in the process of grade-level promotion.
- Service hours can be submitted using the High School Community Service Form or the Middle School Community Service Form.
- Service hours performed prior to admittance to AGCS are permitted with proper documentation.
- Hours can be acquired through school-based opportunities or those opportunities found by the student themselves.
- Summer hours count with proper documentation.
- Court-mandated community service cannot be used towards service hours.
- Parents should not sign off on hours. Please have someone from the place you are volunteering sign the form.
- Acceptance of documentation in regards to service hours is at the discretion of the division Principal. Hours can be rejected if proper paperwork is not submitted with all of the required/correct signatures.
- Students may not receive compensation of any kind in return for their service.
AGCS has plenty of opportunities to volunteer right at school! Teachers are often looking for volunteers for projects and events - like the Holiday Show and Art Shows.
The following organizations are frequently looking for volunteers. As additional opportunities become available, they will posted – so visit frequently when you're looking for hours!
