Welcome to Health Services
The National Association of School Nurses defines school nursing as a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. The Nursing Offices at State Road and Kemblesville are staffed by Registered Nurses during all student school days. Our nurses provide first aid to sick or injured students and administer prescribed medications. Health counseling and health education are available to all students.
We are here to offer our students a safe, caring environment to come to in sickness and in health, to discuss any and all health concerns and to keep our students in school and learning!
Many parents do not understand our request for a doctor’s order to administer medications to their child. The following is an excerpt from the March 30, 2010 “Guidelines for Pennsylvania Schools for the Administration of Medications and Emergency Care” from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
“…A prescription provides instruction to the pharmacist for dispensing the medications, while a medication order provides instruction to the nurse for administration of the medication. Medication orders are required for both prescription as well as over the counter medications and herbal remedies.” As stated above, the paper prescription you receive from your child’s doctor is actually a document for the pharmacist to use to dispense the medication and includes instructions on how and when to take the medicine. It is not the document required by state law and by the nursing office to give the medication to your child. No medications will be administered without a doctor’s order. There will be no exceptions to this state law.
