As Nurses, we know that the key to keeping kids in school is to encourage healthy habits, such as eating nutritious food, exercising, and washing your hands. Follow these tips to ensure that your child has a happy, healthy school year!
Healthy eating
- Work fruits and vegetables into daily routine (5 servings daily)
- Have ready to go healthy snacks available
- Whole grain breads and cereals
- Limit fat intake (chose low fat or non-fat when available)
- Limit sugary drinks (almost none)
- Avoid non-nutrition snacks (ex chips and candy)
- Have kids help with meal preps
Exercising
- Take family walks before or after dinner
- Turn up the music and have a dance party
- Make a game out of household chores
- Have fitness breaks during commercials
- Yard work together
- Gardening together
