Title III - English Language Learners
Title III is a Federal program that provides funding to help students who are not native English speakers learn English and meet state academic standards. The program is also known as Title III, Language Instruction for English Learners and Immigrant Students.
Students who are English learners participate in appropriate programs of language assistance to help ensure that they attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same academic content and academic achievement standards that all students are expected to meet.
Here are some things to know about Title III:
- Title III is available to school districts, charter schools, and intermediate units.
- Funds are distributed to states based on the number of English learners and immigrant students in each state.
- All students who may be English learners must be assessed for that status within 30 days of enrolling in a school.
- The goal is to help English learners develop English language proficiency and meet the same academic standards as other students.
