Independent Study

Independent Study is designed to meet the educational needs of students who are interested in pursuing a course of study beyond the requirements of high school graduation. At the high school level, Independent Study is reserved for 11th and 12th grade students who have demonstrated exceptional competence within a given discipline and the ability to work independently.

Students who are interested in undertaking Independent Study must complete an application that is available in the Guidance Department offices.

Independent Study courses must be run and proctored by a certified teacher in order to allow for credit to be awarded. Since staff members must be willing to take on this additional instructional duty, Independent Study requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Staff members must also submit a completed course syllabus and curriculum guide to have all independent study courses approved.
