High School Community Service Club

Fundraising for Pediatric Cancer Research

In 2018, the high school Community Service Club partnered with Four Diamonds and hosted AGCS’s first ever Mini-THON, modeled after Penn State’s annual THON dance marathon that raises money for children and families fighting pediatric cancer. At last year’s six-hour Mini-THON, high school students danced, played games, participated in competitions, and raised $8,431.41 to donate to pediatric cancer research, cancer treatments, and family support at the Hershey Medical Center.

This year, the Mini-THON team set their donation goal at $15,000. They have already raised 15% of this goal on Donor Drive, and have raised money through fundraisers including a Bake-Off and Penny Wars competition between grade levels. The 2020 AGCS Mini-THON is scheduled for Friday, March 20th from 5-11 p.m. in the State Road gym.

Currently, the Mini-THON team is fundraising at the high school basketball games. The members are accepting donations and selling raffle tickets for a half court shot similar to a 50/50 raffle. On February 13th, a raffle ticket will be drawn and one lucky person will have the chance to win half the donations if they make a half court shot.
