Micro Farm History

The AGCS Micro Farm evolved from our Green Initiative, which was launched in 2003 to preserve an element of Chester County's rich rural, agricultural heritage for our region's children.

In the years since the Green Initiative was launched, AGCS students and staff have transformed our 23 acre State Road campus by:

• Creating a diverse wildlife habitat
• Increasing forest cover
• Planting hundreds of native trees
• Enhancing acres of meadows with native plants and grasses
• Building a greenhouse
• Establishing a system of trails that weaves through nine habitat types

We have grown our micro-farm to include large and small animals, such as alpacas, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, and rabbits. We maintain a produce garden outdoors, starting with seedlings in our greenhouse. We also have in our greenhouse hydroponic and aquaponic garden systems that grow produce and raise tilapia. All of these create a robust, unique learning environment for our students. 

The Micro Farm has flourished through the generosity of the organizations below, the assistance of private donors, and AGCS families.
