The Avon Grove Charter School is located in the heart of rural southern Chester County, an area which has experienced significant and ongoing environmental pressure from industrial, agricultural, and residential development.

We are now at a point in the development of the area in which the conservation efforts of students can have a very positive impact on our region. At the same time, exposure to the natural world can have innumerable positive implications our students. The work of Richard Louv, among others, has provided very convincing evidence that exposure to the "great outdoors" can provide students with a degree of balance and peace which can help students become more effective learners. On a larger scale, the “greening” of the American economy promises untold opportunities for students in an increasingly environmentally-sensitive marketplace. As societies across the globe exhaust their natural resouces, the demand for making use of renewable resouces will increase.
The mission of the AGCS Green Learning Initiative is to: “to help children to discover the wonder and complexity of the natural world through multi-disciplinary studies which will highlight global conservation issues while facilitating positive environmental study and stewardship.”
