School Calendar for 2018-2019 Approved

AGCS School Calendar for 2018-2019 Approved
Posted on 04/18/2018

Last night, at our April School Board meeting, our AGCS School Board discussed and voted on the 2018-2019 AGCS Academic Calendar.

Throughout this process, the school administration developed multiple options with the goal of building an academic calendar that supports rigorous teaching and learning practices and creates an opportunity for a dynamic learning for our students.

During the month of February and March, school administration shared with the staff and our families three different proposals and asked for feedback related to the options. After evaluating the options that were shared with the community, along with the feedback we received from staff and parents, AGCS Administration presented one final option to the board last night. It was ultimately the recommendation of the administration that the School Board adopt this new variation for the 2018-2019 school year.

This final version has some slight adjustments compared to the versions originally shared with the community. Again, these adjustments were made after taking into consideration feedback provided from our staff and families.

The key adjustments to review are:

  1. Instead of having full days off on November 19th, November 20th, February 14th, and February 15th for Parent-Teacher Conference and Teacher In-Service we have added 4 half (½) days to the school calendar. This is similar to how the school has operated on these days in the past.
  2. By adding days of school and instructional time on these half-days, we were able to move the last student day of school from Tuesday, June 11th to Friday, June 7th.
  3. By moving the end of the year to Friday, June 7th, this provided the school with potentially 2 additional snow make-up days during the week of June 10th before having to take days from Spring Break.

School Administration also suggested to the board that the school develops a new policy related to the process, timing, and notification to our school community if snow make-up days were to impact scheduled days off during Spring Break.

We appreciate everyone’s patience throughout this process as well as their feedback.
